Setup Huawei E3276 in Slackware 14.0
 
Anyone knows how to get Huawei E3276 4g broadband USB modem working under Slackware 14.0 with standard SMP kernel 3.2.29?

When I plug it into my notebook it detected as removable device

When I mounted this removable device, I found sources for kernel module hw_cdc_driver. After compiling and loading this driver, when I plug modem again I see

I run OpenBox, NetworkManager is not installed. Any ideas what to do?

If this is a full Slackware 14.0 install, then NetworkManager is installed. Use it!

# chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager
I do not know about OpenBox, but in Windowmaker I just run 'nm-applet'. (I needed to install wmsystemtray from Slackbuilds.org as nm-applet runs as a system tray application.) You will need to configure your connection before use.

Your other alternative is to use pppd directly. This is much more convoluted.
You could use the GUI frontend 'kppp' in OpenBox, but I have found that you need to configure kppp in KDE before it can be used in other window managers.

Make sure that you have USB_ModeSwitch installed (which, in turn, depends on libusb and Tcl). When you have them, udev will do its job, meaning that /dev/ttyUSB will be created. Then your network configuration software (an example has been given above by @allend) should be able to detect and configure your modem.

I have usb_modeswitch installed and as I can see from logs, it switched device to modem

What I would try is:

Then check for the device node you mentioned.

No, you don't have to, because the corresponding udev rules are already included in the usb_modeswitch package. Go to /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf and enable logging by setting "EnableLogging" to "1". When you do this, you will find usb_modeswitch log in the /var/log directory, which should tell you where the problem is.

In this case, I do not think that a kernel upgrade is going to help.
If you want to try a later kernel, perhaps you could consider upgrading to Slackware-current, which currently has the 3.7.1 kernel. When you use a kernel that you build for yourself, rather than a kernel from the official tree, it adds to the potential sources of problems.

Is /dev/ttyUSB0 the only device that has been created? Does /dev/ttyUSB1 also exist? If so, try to manually edit /etc/wvdial.conf (replace /dev/ttyUSB0 with /dev/ttyUSB1) and try to run wvdial again.

Yes, I tried NM from official package without any success.

Also I tested this modem with latest Slax 7.0.5 (kernel 3.6.11) and NetworkManager. I tried ti connect using NetworkManager and created mobile connection. Here is snippet from /var/log/messages:

Connection can't be established. Maybe this device should be used somehow as WWAN?

To me, that looks like your connection is being rejected by your ISP. Have you properly configured your connection according to your ISP's requirements?

I have a 3G huawei and what I do to connect is a mix of several things.
I have a simple script which does

BUT! the string Init1 = AT+CPIN=8427 doesn't work so I needed to configure NetworkManager to unlock the device.

It works fine for me with Slackware 14.0
