Setting up mySQL & Mail Server

Hello. Since I have gotten VMWare to work, I can now run Linux full time in the background and Windows only when people need it through VMWare. I figured I'd run a small server to play with. Here's a few questions I have.

1. How do I setup mySQL? I installed it when I installed Slack, but from there I'm lost.

2. Can anybody mention any docs on setting up sendmail(out going mail) & imapd(incoming) I'd like to have an address at my domain name. If those are the wrong programs to use, let me know.

Finally, here's a VMWare question. If I hook a non-Linux supported USB printer up to Linux, shouldn't I be able to print when in (VMWare) Win2k?

Thanks
-Jared

I know for a fact that MySQL comes installed on Slack 9, but it is 3.23.56 I think. MySQL 4.0.12 is out now and it might make sense to upgrade to version 4 since there are some newer features and speed improvements.

Sendmail also comes installed too, but I haven't worked with sendmail.

I would advice you to go away from sendmail if possible. What about postfix or qmail ?

If you want to configure MySQL then there should be a file called /etc/my.cnf

Also, if you want to make managing MySQL easier, I would suggest trying PHPmyAdmin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpmyadmin/ ). You need php and apache installed to run this and they should be if you did a full install. Other than that I would need more information to help ya out.
