Serial mouse trouble (KDE 3.1, slack 9.1) & Changing standard desktop enviroment...

1. I am trying to configure slackware. the install went perfectly but when i enter KDE, the mouse does not function. i read another post and tried to use xf86config and it wont work. How can i find out what the address of the mouse is so i can fix it?

If it helps, i am running a keyboard with a mouse built-in and tried switching to external but still it did not work.

EDIT: after more work with xf86config, i am recieving mouse errors when i try to "startx"

2. How can i set a new standard desktop enviro? I set it as KDE in the install, but i would like to try windowmaker, etc. Is there a seprate command for each or a way to configure it?

EDIT: Figured this out. type stuff like "startx gnome"

Hi,

concerning your second question, just enter "xwmconfig" before starting X.
A list of all the installed Window Managers will appear and you can chose, which to start as the default one.
Regarding your first question, it would be nice to post what error messages you are recieving, so we know, what might be wrong. You could always try "mouseconfig" to chose the way your mouse is connected to your box.

Hope that helps,

Zargun
