Does anybody know if there is a tutorial or how to on enable ling separate X sessions with dual monitors in slackware?
In rhel all I have to do is enable it under the nvidia-settings... In slackware it does not work that well... to what I understand you have to configure a separate x session...
frieza thanks for the reply but thats not what I am looking for. I am looking for each of my screens (Dual Monitor) to have each its independent desktop.
I can archive this in any other distro by enabling "Separate X Screen" in the nvidia utility. In slackware when I do that I get a black screen in my secondary monitor. I was told that I was getting a black screen because slackware requires extra tweaking to get separate x screen enabled.

What does not work well? As you pointed out, you can set this option with with nvidia-settings. I went with TwinView but played with separate X for an hour or so and didn't notice anything weird. Which DE/WM are you using?

Well when I enable all I get is a black screen.... I can move the cursor in it but I dont get a desktop.... All I get is just a black screen.
I am using KDE/Slackware 13.1 with visual effects enable.
I find KDE and separate X sessions works better with this is in ~/.kde/share/config/kcmdisplayrc

[X11]
disableMultihead=true
Once I have KDE running, then this command will start Windowmaker in a separate X session on my second display
Quote:
wmaker -display :0.1
To use xfce, I need to Ctrl-Alt-F[2-6] to get another console, then login as another user. I then do 'startx -- :1' to start a xfce session (previously set with xwmconfig). I can then use Ctrl-Alt-F[7-8] to toggle between the two desktop environments.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to try it in a few min.

While that did work how can I get another kde session in my secondary screen?
You can't. Not really, anyway. KDE4 does not support separate screens. You could try "DISPLAY=:0.1 kwin &" to get the window manager running, but I think starting plasma is going to be quite problematic.
