Sendmail incoming problems

Hello guys.
I just configured sendmail to run on my server.
I followed shilo's guide.
I went to inetd.conf and uncommented the pop and imap lines.
Now when i got to run nmap local host i see only the smtp port open.
Besides that I try to send emails to my other email (gmail, hotmail) but only the gmail receives. Then I try to send mail to my sendmail account on my server but nothing comes in.When I send mail from google I get a reply from daemon that the mail didn't reach its destination but hotmail won't say anything.
Any clues?
The other thing is that when I receive the sendmail into my gmail it puts the hosts name infront of my domain name. eg: root@host.domain.com. Is there any way to get rid the host name from that line?
Thank you.or reply to one of them I received from sendmail but nothing goes through.or reply to one of them I received from sendmail but nothing goes through.

You need to restart inetd after modifying inetd.conf.
Look at /etc/hosts to change hostame.domainame mappings.
Hotmail doesn't accept mail from unreliable accounts (you need to have fully qualified domain adress).
Run nmap ip_address to check status of sendmail.
