Segfault in libc
Last week I installed a new server with slackware-12.2
root@mail:~# uname -a
Linux mail 18.104.22.168-smp #2 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:32:43 CST 2008 i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 440 @ 2.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Configured it so it would be our new server.
But when it's been taken online we see qmail-smtpd crashing.
This happens about in 1 of 100 messages, but sometimes there are no crashes for 1000 of messages?
This is what I see in /var/log/messages:
Feb 15 04:39:40 mail kernel: qmail-smtpd: segfault at edf158 ip b7e01a90 sp bfd20a30 error 6 in libc-2.7.so[b7d96000+145000]
Feb 15 04:39:56 mail kernel: qmail-smtpd: segfault at f66158 ip b7e88a90 sp bfaa7fc0 error 6 in libc-2.7.so[b7e1d000+145000]
The server is now online, and I'm trying to reproduce this error, however
I send 10516 messages already without a single error.
--> so it's hard to reproduce.
Can someone help me to fix this problem.
(are there know problem with this hardware and libc?)
It's possible, but extremely unlikely that this is a problem with the ardware or glibc. It sounds like a race condition of some sort. You should talk to the qmail devs about it.
