Security patch info for a default version 9 install?

OK, I'm ready to beging patching know security problems in my new slack 9 install.

That security report on LQ's home page was a bit overwhelming.

Questions: For a slackware installation, can I assume that if I patch as per the Slackware Security Advisories, I'll be safe, or do I need to pay attention to lists such as the security report on LQ's home page or other sources.

I understand that if I install other stuff that does not come with slack, I'm on my own, but I'm just wondering what, if any, other sources I need to monitor for security patches for a default slack install.

Installing the patches just from the Slackware FTP should make you OK. I belive Patrick patches most vulnerabilities that are discovered.

Of course, its always a good idea to keep an eye on LQ Security, etc, if you are running a server, but apart from that, Slackware stays pretty up-to-date.

Most OSS gets patched for EVERY TEENY WEENY thing (which is good of course), so you dont have to freak out if you miss a patch. 90% of the patches are for vulnerabilities that might not even be exploitable. So maybe once a month, check the recent patches and apply them if you're running that type of server. But you dont have to upsess about it.
