scripts freeze in slackware 12

Hello all,

I've just recently installed slackware 12
and it's been giving me trouble from day 1.
It's not that i don't like it rough, but
i could use some help in getting stuff to work.

The worst problem are the script freezes,
netconfig freezes 3 out of 4 times.
Sometimes in the first screen, sometimes after several screens.

Midnight Commander(mc, not realy a script i guess) freezes everytime, right after running it.

Pkgtool too.

Most of shell script freeze every other run or so.

I'm able to change to another virtual console, login and kill the frozen script, but that doesn't help getting things done.

I have no idea where to start looking,
tho i suspect it might be a hardware prob.

Another strange thing is rc.inet1 (start/stop/anything) refusing to run claiming "no such command".

Are you sure you have a full installation? The last line of your post sounds like some files are missing (generally due to some packages not being installed), but I can't say for sure without the exact error message.
Otherwise, it could very well be hardware related, but there's really not enough information to offer a fair guess.

It was full install.

And there is no error message, it just hangs,
as if waiting for something, no cpu usage or anything.

Is there a way to keep track of what's exactly going on in there? Or probe around the hardware without taking things apart?

Have a look in /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog to see if anything stands out.

I went trough the logs, there are no entries at the time of the freezes, just start up logs.

I also ran a memory check, everything seems to be ok.

All the scripts that freeze seem to do so when they try to paint a "graphical menu"(ascii based, with color background).

I'm starting to run out of ideas.. the last one being re burn the cd's and try to reinstall from scratch.

Hi,

Post the output of dmesg in a vbcode window ('#' at the top of reply).

You can redirect the dmesg;
Code:
~#dmesg >mydmesg #move to a share or media that
                         #you can post from
You can now post the 'mydmesg' in the code window.

Couldn't post the log, had no way of moving it to a comp with an internet connection.
But it doesn't matter now, reinstalled from a fresh re-burn, on low speed. That solved the weird stuff.

Thanks for the help everyone.
