is there a way to lock the screen with a pw? e.g if i am gone for 2 mins and i don't want to shut down all my running apps and logout but i also don't want anyone to fool around with my babe (=slack)

thanks in advance

Use xlock. http://www.tux.org/~bagleyd/xlockmore.html

Should be installed by default though.

yeah, if you did a full install you should already have xlockmore installed... so to lock just do a:

xlock -mode name

where name is the name of the screensaver you pick to be displayed while the lock is active...

do a man xlock for more info...

or just xlock, then it will rotate through the screensavers. :D

some of the screensavers included really suck...

=)

what i did on my pc (fluxbox window manager) was to create an entry in the main menu pointing to "xlock -mode example" called "Lock Screen"... so whenever i need to lock my screen i just right-click my desktop and click "Lock Screen"...

can you get xlock to prevent somebody from just hitting CTRL+ALT+F1...F6 or CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to get out of X?
