scaling background image - Slackware, WindowMaker
I'm just screwing around a little with my background and would like to know how to scale it rather than tile it.
I have Slackware 9 and WindowMaker on that machine. I downloaded dare_to_slack.png from http://www.slackware.com/~msimons/slackware/grfx/ and put it in the /usr/share/WindowMaker/Backgrounds directory. Now when I right-click on the desktop and choose Appearance/Background/Images I can select it. However, it shows up as 4 tiled images on the screen. I would like to just have it display once and either scale to fit the screen or just stay normal size in the middle of the screen. I looked in Window Maker Preferences Utility and didn't see an option there. Any ideas? Thanks.... |
Use Gimp to rescale it :) and save it in the
right size ;) Cheers, Tink |

run wmsetbg -s /path/to/image and you won't have to resize it.

Ok, thanks for that also!
Interesting, when I played around with resizing the image with gimp, it looked smooth enough. And I just 'scaled' the image. I didn't mess with any filters or shapening. When I used that wmsetbg on the original image, the text is more jaggedy. Guess it just depends on the source image. Thanks... |
If you have somewhere to enter a command, try getting fbsetbg as it's a script to find the best root screen setter you have installed, with those supporting transparency used first. :)
