Good day!
I'm having some trouble getting my SB Live MIDI synthesizer to produce any kind of sound.
I'm running Slackware 9.1, installed just a few days ago, so it's pretty much untouched. I'm still running the default kernel (bare.i, I guess) and the precompiled ALSA 0.9.6 that comes with Slackware. Regular sound works fine, but MIDI is completely silent.
The MIDI player I'm using is pmidi 1.5.5. Running pmidi -l gives me this:
Code:
Port Client name Port name
64:0 Rawmidi 0 - EMU10K1 MPU-401 (U EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART)
65:0 Emu10k1 WaveTable Emu10k1 Port 0
65:1 Emu10k1 WaveTable Emu10k1 Port 1
65:2 Emu10k1 WaveTable Emu10k1 Port 2
65:3 Emu10k1 WaveTable Emu10k1 Port 3
Looks good enough to me, but actually playing a .mid-file, pmidi -p 65:0 file.mid results in nothing. No complaints or anything, just silence. It doesn't matter which port I choose.
I'm suspecting it's simply a matter of the MIDI volume being turned down, but my alsamixer is missing the synth control (and so is aumix), and amixer naturally has the same problem:
Code:
# amixer set Synth 100%
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Synth',0
My alsa-utils are of course also precompiled Slackware binaries.
Some help would be greatly appreciated. Any ideas?
