save stick figure of original image

I now have a scheme (thanks to all) so I can make a series of frames form a file. Now I would like to use gimp (my instructions were for a different version) or pencil to make a stick figure for each frame which can be saved separately. Can anyone suggest a good tutorial on either and IF I will be able to copy on a layer above the initial frames and save the new layer separately?

the current Gimp is 2.8.6
Some of the gui functions changed in the 2.8 branch

what version is this "tutorial" for ?
the just old 2.6 , or the 2.4 or ancient 2.2 versions of The gimp

a link to it would be nice

what Type of "frame" is this ???

the only thing i can GUESS at is something like this
you have a video
you extract 30 sec. from it
now you want to convert the "photos" to a line drawing
something like from this gallery page
http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gallery.shtml
or something like this set of images

Yes like a animated gif. I have been able to figure it out on my GIMP 2.6.
I selected on .png frames with a framestep of 5 so for 29.97 fps that gives me about 6 frames for each second. Only need about 3-5 sec.
Yes the layers can be saved separately.
The frames are coming off of a DVD made off of a TV.

If you are going to be doing a lot of this type of editing, the GIMP Animation Package provides many tools that should make the task easier ("flipbook"-type navigation, multi-layer frames, onion skinning, etc).
