sata spindown

I have a RAID 1 SATA Array consisting of two disks. I would like to spindown my disks at the end of the day.

hdparm is not compatible with SATA devices.

What's the solution?

Any help appreciated,
Scott

If hdparm does not work maybe sdparm will work. Check it out here.

thanks for the reply. I downloaded, compiled and installed 'sdparm'

Seems like it COULD be what i'm looking for, however, it returns strange messages when run. See below.

Code:
bash-3.00# sdparm --all /dev/sda
    /dev/sda: ATA Maxtor 6Y080M0 YAR5
REQUEST SENSE failed, try again with '-v' option
bash-3.00# sdparm -a -v /dev/sda
    /dev/sda: ATA Maxtor 6Y080M0 YAR5
    Request Sense cmd: 03 00 00 00 40 00
request sense: Fixed format, current; Sense key: Illegal Request
Additional sense: Invalid command operation code
REQUEST SENSE failed
However, when I initiate a --command=stop it appears to work fine, and I can hear the drive spin down.

Code:
bash-3.00# sdparm --command=stop /dev/sda
    /dev/sda: ATA Maxtor 6Y080M0 YAR5
I wonder if it is actually stopping BOTH sata drives in the array?

Thanks,
Scott

Actually, hdparm works just as fine with my SATA drive (Seagate ST9120822AS and used with AHCI), hdparm -S and -B works perfectly. Haven't tried -Z which would put it in sleep mode, but it does spin down when -S is in effect.
Have you actually tried hdparm?
