Mozilla and Firefox both need
File - Print - Properties - printer string
changing from lpr to lpr-cups

I just change to lpr-cups, but still don't work. Just works with the printer connected directly to slack.

Possible solution.

hraposo:

I have same h/w on slack platform. This is what worked for me.

1) On the XP box: Printer> Properties> Port - Then uncheck 'Enable bi-directional support'

2) in CUPS: Device URI: smb://Workgroup:user@password/xpboxname/printer-sharename

(where 'xpboxname' is the "Full computer name" on the -Computer Name- tab of your
System Properties, and 'printer-sharename' is the "Share name" on the -Sharing tab- on
your printer properties. "Workgroup" can also be found on the -Computer Name- tab)

-Unnecessary statement: System Properties can be found by clicking Start> right click
my computer> Properties.

3) in /etc/samba/smb.conf -uncoment line: "Printing = cups"

You got everything else configured. That should work. Let us know.

West.

Hi..

Command "printconf-gui" simply worked for me in CentOS 4.2. Only thing was I had to restart CUPS and Samba service once. Try your luck ..

From Stable changelog (it's on current too of course...):
Quote:
patches/packages/samba-3.0.20b-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to samba-3.0.20b.
This includes various bugfixes. Thanks to Christopher Linnet for reporting
that this fixes a problem with printing to a printer on an XP machine from
CUPS. If you use such a configuration, you'll want this upgrade for sure.
