run 10.2 kernel on slack 11?

My video card worked with modified drivers on slack 10.2 with the 2.6 kernel, however it won't work with the new kernel. My questions is: Can I use the slack 11 disks to install everything and then when it comes to 'choose a kernel' at the end, can I put in my 10.2 disk and choose one??

My card is a nvidia geforce420 Go (toshiba satellite pro 6100)

thanks for any help

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to aside from the gcc versions being different. Have you considered building your own kernel? May be easier than trying to use a kernel from an older version. Since you have an nvidia card, are you using the nv driver or the binary nvidia driver?

I could build my own kernel but I am not sure that would help. The reason is the nvidia drivers only work with the older kernel for my specific card type (the newer drivers don't support my card)

I can use the 'nv' driver but I want the full 3d support etc

I would do this way
- Do a "normal" install of Slack 11.0
- Build your favourite kernel from scratches
- Set your system to boot your "favourite" kernel as default leaving the stock 11.0 kernel as second choice. ( in order you can boot something in case something goes wrong)
- Install the proper nvidia driver (checking for xorg-6.9.0 compatibility).

Hope this helps
Ciao

The latest nvidia linux driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-9629.html states quite clearly "geforce420 Go" as "supported product": http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_18897.html

Or is the PCI-ID listed there not the same that you see when running "lspci" ?
