rt2500 module not loading

I am trying to install the rt2500 driver on slackware 11, with kernel 2.6.18.8-generic-smp

Well I ran make and make install with no problems but as soon as I run modprobe rt2500, I get this error:

FATAL: Error inserting rt2500 (/lib/modules/2.6.18.8-smp/extra/rt2500.ko): Invalid module format

I tried to reboot, thinking that udev would take care of it, but udev just skiped over it. I am attempting to use version 1.1.0-b4 of rt2500. I also tried the nightly build with the same result. Any ideas?

no, I downloaded it from slackwares web site, and I also have the source files inside of my /usr/src/ from the kernel-source package.

You run Slackware 11.0.
The kernel 2.6.18.8-generic-smp is the version that comes with Slackware-current. Did you install the package from -current on 11.0 or did you use the package sources to compile your own kernel?
Only in the case that you compiled that 2.6.18.8-generic-smp kernel yourself, will the compiled rt2500 driver work. The slackware-current binary kernel package is incompatible with Slackware 11.0.
