My question is. Is it safe to stop it there and try to reboot or should I give it another 24 hrs of running time?

Do you have a very slow internet connection? That oxygen-icons-4.8.4-i486-1.txz package is 29 MB in size, perhaps it is just taking long to download.

Will I end up with a broken system if I stop it and the computer is not even going to boot in slackware if I interrupt it?

THe
rsync_current.sh script just downloads packages and creates a local mirror of a Slackware repository. It does not
install any package. So, it is safe to abort the script and resume it at any later time. The script will pick up where you aborted it.
If you want a progress indicator, you can run the script as follows after you abort the one which is running now, and start again:
Code:
./rsync_current.sh --progress
