router

I am using DSL at home, and would like to use my slack box as a router for my internet acces at home, so that I can use more than 1 computer on the internet at a time. How would i go about doing this? I use to have a linksys router but it blew up and I can't afford another router at this time. ((

Any help would be grateful, btw what is a good irc channel to hangout in to get more proficient in linux and slack in particular.

If you haven't recompiled the kernel, do so and add IPTables 1.2.8 (I believe Slack 9 ships with 1.2.7a). When that's done, set up a nice masquerading rc.firewall. I'm certainly not an expert in the field of networking, but there are enough tutorials and documents available to enable anyone to craft a decent setup. Also, there's a lot of frontends to make the configuring even easier (for example GuardDog, Firestarter, gShield etc).

Best idea is to edit /etc/inetd.conf and take out any services you do NOT use, slap on a nice firewall and let it do it's thing. My server ran apache w/ php and mysql along with seti@home and a counter-strike server up at college when I had it on the network. It's quite easy to set up, obviously make sure you have 2 nics in it and a hub of some sorts. Let me know if you need any help
