Restoring contents of /bin

Question about the contents of /bin

First I know the contents of the /bin directory hold common applications,
eg.

cp
chmod
chown
login
su
ls
ps

So the contents of /bin get deleted, common rm -fr command...

Then extracting the Slackware Packages a/bin-0.8.15 back into the /bin directory creates problems when using commands such as tar and ps xaf.

I am not sure if anyone has encountered this or if I am the only bonehead out there that has accidently removed their /bin directory contents, but if there is anyone else that has done this and successfully been able to regain full functionality (WITHOUT, a complete re-install) please let me know how to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance,
Jas

The biggest problem is that you deleted tar. This is needed to extract a slackware package. So you need to get a tar binaire (can't give it to you right now (at work)) put it in the bin directory and start installing the a/ packages again.

Re: Restoring contents of /bin

Well I have everything working, at least basic functionality, however, a few commands (tar included) are not the latest versions.

So all I need to do is grab all the packages from the a/ directory and begin extracting them from / correct?

Thanks again,
Jas
