restarting the joystick

Well, if I reboot my computer then my controller works fine. But sometimes it just "disappears" from my system. All the modules are loaded but systemsettings does not see it. Is there anyway to restart the joystick service? Or whatever mechanism gets it to run in the first place.

It depends on the joystick (some require extra codes to the kernel modules), but one method is to remove the "broken" module, then reinstall it, via 'rmmod' and 'modprobe' (as root user) respectively.

A link that might help (you'll have to adapt it to slackware):
