Restarting Networking

How do you restart certain network daemons after making configuration changes to a sonfig file in Slackware? I recently began using Slackware after about a year using Red Hat and I am not sure how to do this since the initislization scripts are a bit different. For example, is there a way to start and stop the Samba daemon other than typing in the name of the binary on the command line and using the kill command?

I don't use Samba, but to be general about the topic...

I'm assuming that you have Samba set to run at boottime (i.e., /etc/rc.d/rc.samba has the +x flags set).

You should be able to execute:

/etc/rc.d/rc.samba restart // to restart the daemon if you change config

/etc/rc.d/rc.samba stop // to stop the daemon if it is running

/etc/rc.d/rc.samba start // to start the daemon if it is running

Is this what you were asking?

to configure your network in slackware using : netconfig

if you configure your network manually using ifconfig, here some command for example :

ifconfig eth0 your-ipaddr netmask your-netmask
ifconfig eth0 up // activate your ethernet configuration
ifconfig etho down // deactivate your ethernet configuration

pls read the manual ifconfig : man ifconfig

another administration start/stop for apache :

apachectl start // activate apache web server
apachectl stop // deactivate apache web server
apachectl startssl //activate apache web server with secure (https)

for detail administration about slackware, pls visit slackware website (www.slackware.com)

thx
