Resolution when booting up

Hello - I would like to set my resolution to 1024*768 when the PC boots up,
so directly after LILO I would like to go into that resolution.

I would NOT like to compile FB devices into my kernel - is there a way to
set the resolution with using FBs?
When I do this, half of the screen is taken by a whitish picture of bubbles
that slowly fades in (It is really odd). If we can get rid of this, then we can use FBs.

Let's say I'm using Slackware 10.2 (It's actually an upgraded current)

My Graphics card is an ATi M3 (which I got 3d working on!!!) which counts as a Rage 128.

What parameters control the resolution?

Thanks,
Riddick

Ok sorted this out - should have been using the VESA FB
and not the Rage FB.

Thanks,
Riddick
