Resolution Problems

Hi.

I have an NVidia Riva TNT2. I reinstalled Slackware sometime ago. After the reinstall, I can't set my display resolution 1024x768. 800x600 is the max I get. What's the problem.

Thanks.

whats your xf68config file look like and did you install the nvidia drivers or are you using standard vga or vesa?

This could be a lot of things. One of the more noticable one is that your /etc/X11/XF86Config is not configured properly (which is probably the case). But you monitor might not support any higher resolution than 1024x768. We need more information. Post your /etc/X11/XF86Config.

I am assuming that you did not change /etc/X11/XF86Config when you reinstalled slack, but it was working great before the install (you should have backed that file up).

Well, I had installed NVidia Drivers last time I had Slackware but I this time around I can't install them. I can't figure out what the problem is. So I'm using standard vga drivers. However, before reinstalling, I could set my resolutio to 1024x768 even when I did not have NVidia drivers installed. Can you help me?

This problem does have to do with your XF86Config. It is your vertical and horizontal refresh rate settings for your monitor and possibly the modes listed in it also.

Look on google for your monitor specifications. I can only adjust mine to 1024x768 whenever it is a fresh install of slackware. Then I have to go in and change my settings for the monitors refresh rates and the modes and I can run the normal 1600x1200 I run.
