I am a Go (game) player and though I've been Slacking for a year now I am still VERY green and was having a lot of trouble getting answers to a simple question:
"How do I download and install the PANDA-glGo client server so that I can play on IGS?"
For anyone (newbie or otherwise) beating your head against a wall trying to solve this issue I want to share a very simple solution.
1) go to Java.com and follow instructions for downloading the Linux (self-extracting file). Once installed and running....
2) go to the gGo_webstart_page
3) Click Webstart
. It will ask if you want to Open
the file. Choose Open With
and then enter the path to JAVAWS (which is in the directory where you just installed the latest version of Java).
That's it. You will now have a web-based version of gGo that you can use to access IGS, review SGF (Smart Go Format) files, and play GNU Go (which is available for download at Slackbuilds
Hope this helps (and that I don't get scolded by some LQ Senior Member for breaking some etiquette rule)!
