Request For Comment: xfree86 4.4

Hi!

I'm currently downloading XF86 v4.4 from ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4....-ix86-glibc23/

I am using Slackware 9.1 - Current, 2.6.3, nvidia driver, dropline-gnome; are there any known issues? Is it advisable to upgrade? Thanks in advance.

Personally, I would never upgrade system-critical packages like XF86, as long as they are not in the "current" branch of slackware.

Also a friend of mine actually did an upgrade, but he felt no significant difference.

well i, have just finished the upgrade, and it works fine for me, now my intel card is supported :-).

if your xfree86 4.3 works well ,i don't think you need to upgrade it

Quickly browsing through the changelog, there doesn't seem to be anything new feature-wise, mostly just some new drivers for some previously unsupported cards. So basically, if your XFree86 works great now with version 4.3, upgrading is probably not worth the trouble, unless you're bored. Plus their new license isn't compatible with the GPL, so we won't see that in Slackware-current anytime soon.

What's new in XFree86 4.4
