Removing Front Partition

So I was dual booting slackware and windows, set up like this:
windows was /dev/sda2
slackware was /dev/sda3
Now I'm getting rid of my windows partition and I was wondering, will this mess up my slackware system? Will it become /dev/sda2 and everything break? Or will it remain intact? Thanks.

The numbers won't change when you delete a primary partition. 1-4. If I remember rightly though, if you get rid of a logical partition (no 5 upwards) subsequent logical partitions will renumber.

You can use UUID= or LABEL= in your /etc/fstab to avoid these sorts of problem.

Since 13.0, you can use "root=LABEL=whatever" in the lilo/grub configuration file as well. Very handy. (Thanks again, Eric.)
