remove freetype in 9.1 and then re-compile
 

Hi,

Following the font de-uglification howto, I've installed my windows truetype fonts. I'm still not satisfied with the font quality however, with the hinting not enabled.

Searching other threads, it seems that I need to recompile freetype to enable the hinting. First, does it really make a big difference?

What I haven't seen specifically addressed in other threads is how to safely remove freetype? There does not seem to be a freetype package in slackware 9.1, to remove, and is probably part of the X packages. And I'm not sure of which files to remove. There must be someone here who has done this. Thanks.
