Remove & restore panel in kde 3.5

Hello,

I'm using Slackware 12.1 (though I don't think it will matter for this post :))

I'm looking for a way to kill and later restart panel in KDE. I've found a command to kill it at:
<http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/remove-kde-panel-258998/>

by using 'killall kicker'.

But, I haven't been able to find a way to restart it. Would I just use 'restart kicker' ? (obviously I don't want to kill it without being sure I can restart it.)

I'm trying to create a completely blank screen except for one or two icons.

Thanks,
-Joe

Also, is there a way for kde 3.5 to persistantly load without panel/kicker loading or being visible when kde starts?

I've looked around in /home/user/.kde/* without finding what to alter.

Thanks,
-Joe

I found this and it seems to do what you want. Not tested it much though. Run the following command :
Code:

kwriteconfig --file ~/.kde/share/autostart/panel.desktop --group "Desktop Entry" --key Hidden true

You're a genius!!!

So to get kicker back, I would just "... Hidden false" ?

Thank you!!!!

This didn't seemt to work for me - I simply deleted the file ~/.kde/share/autostart/panel.desktop to bring kicker back permanently. Just running kicker will bring it back as needed.

Thank you! :)
