remove all games from Slackware14.1 install?
new Virtualbox install . Slackware14.1 x86_64
I opted out of the kde[i] "sets" but I still have a ton of Games off the Xfce menu. I can remove the Games menu easy enough, but that just moves them to "Other" menu. How can I uninstall all the games? Or will that cause (irreparable?) harm to the system? Tips and tricks or scripts or RTFM links accepted. Thanks. |
During install, opt out of the "Y" (games) package set.
Off topic tip of the day: ditch the long signature. :) |
"y" group contains some games, but certainly not all. KDE games, in particular, are not included there.
I don't think uninstalling games will break any dependencies. However, it's not clear what a "game" is. It's kind of subjective. Is xaos a game? Is emacs tetris a game? Is fortune a game? Your best bet may be to go through all apps and X apps (including DE groups such as KDE) and make a list of packages you consider "gamey". |

Back on topic... Back in 14.0, there was a kdegames package you could simply remove. Now, they're separated into individual packages for each game. Have fun finding all of them, and don't forget the shared libraries! |

If you're just trying to remove games from the Xfce menu without removing the packages, shortcuts that go in them are somewhere in /usr/share, usually /usr/share/applications. They're the files with the .desktop extension, though not all such files are necessarily destined to be desktop icons. As long as the shortcuts are there, something will get around to finding them, which might explain why the icons ended up in the "Other" menu. There are some xdg tools (perhaps xdg-desktop-menu) to do manual updates, but my use has been random poking at it until it does what I want by coincidence. It helps when I somehow botch an install or uninstall. |
Some of you may ask "why" I want to remove the games?
I never bring a knife to a gunfight. Same reason I don't drink light beer or decaf coffee. It's a Desktop Workstation. When it comes to games, I'll buy a console. I'm a no-nonsense kind of guy. Option A: You give me the ring. Option B: I make you give me the ring. They're .desktop items under /usr/share/applications/kde4/ I think I'll breeze through some of the install options again, today. What causes me to wonder is why the games are installed if kde[i] is de-selected. That is the real question in my mind. Thanks for your help and the witty banter. :) |

From ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...ent/README.TXT :
"KDEI: The KDE internationalization package series." Do not have the KDEI series does not mean not having games from the KDE series. But are you using XFCE? Quote:

3 games left which are Xaos, xboard and eboard Code:
slackpkg remove gnuchess-6.0.3-x86_64-2 and finally the X games package goes too: Code:
slackpkg remove xgames-0.3-x86_64-4 Thanks to everyone for the support. |
Well, this is "cute"
Code:
slackpkg -dialog=off -batch=on -default_answer=no install-new Code:
audiocd-kio-4.10.5-x86_64-1.txz The very same packages I chose NOT to install or have removed manually. Grrr. ;) Blacklisting kde in /etc/slackpkg/blacklist "fixed" that. Now we have only Looking for NEW packages to install. Please wait... DONE Code:
calligra-l10n-cs-2.7.4-noarch-1.txz Could be worse |
I found several packages:
bomber granatier kbounce lskat kollision kspaceduel kgoldrunner ksnakeduel kpat kmines knavalbattle kapman |
No thanks for the completely useless post, and that 3.5 years after the topic was closed. Way to go!
The OP said he did not install KDE. What you mention are all KDE games. |
