remote job running

Hi,

i was wonders whether it is possible to log in to an other computer with ssh and then log out, while keeping your program from that session running.

My situation is that i would like my server to run a bittorrent download, without the need to keep my normal computer running in ssh (as my server has no keyboard and such.)

thnx in advance,

Have you been thinking of using VNC?

you can then start a small xserver and running a lot of (x)programs...

when you kill your vnc-session on the client then the server is not affected in any way...
just log on again...

visit: http://www.realvnc.org/ for more info !

bye liu

use "nohup" :

> nohup myprogram &

The "&" is to run it in the background, and "nohup" to make it immune to hang up signal.

you can check the status of yours jobs with the "jobs" or "ps" commands.

ctorrent

Alternatively you could use ctorrent , a command line bittorrent client. It can be used with screen to run ctorrent in the background as per the ctorrent faq

It's a fairly small, easy to use client with little cpu overhead.
