reinstalling multilib

I've been having a few problems compiling packages lately, and it usually shows a glibc error of some kind. I use alienbob's multilib and I want to reinstall the packages. Using
Code:
upgradepkg --install-new *-compat32/*.t?z
just skips everything because a package with the same name is already there. Is it safe to do a regular removepkg on something like glibc? or is there a better way to reinstall the packages?

And remember you can combine those options

Code:
upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new *-compat32/*.t?z
