Agreed.. just find that the loading up the desktop when first boot up is a little slow. I am just fiddling around with the desktop thingy.. so i might just stick with XFCE.. see how it goes.

Incidentally, you can replace Xfce default WM with KWin for some really useful as well as "candy" options. In fact with the "kwin --replace" command (see below link for variations) you can just try it temporarily as it will revert upon logout. It also fixes screen tearing and allows control over animation response speeds for snappier or slower feel. The list is quite long as to how much opens up with KWin as WM/Compositor.

There are numerous posts and videos on it and this is just one

-- Xfce with Kwin --

Try it. You may like it.

PS While I really enjoyed several versions of Enlightenment, most notably e17, since e19 it has changed a lot and most find the changes for the better. Development was a bit slow until Samsung and a few others got involved. Ultimately they want to use it as a template for mobile phone use where "gorgeous, yet snappy" rules.

I have managed to get the LXDE up with the instructions by AlienBob.
Installed the necessary packages and use the xmconfig to select the LXDE.

LXDE is obsolete, really. The project merged with Razor-Qt to become LXQT (a Qt5 based lightweight desktop environment).
I have updated the Slackware page on the LXDE Wiki with this information.

maybe I am misunderstanding, but if you are referring to the gtk+2 version, AFAIK, no, it's not: that is still mantained by Andrej N. Gritsenko.
others (dgod, Julien Lavergne, etc.) are also contributing stuff (porting it to gtk+3, for example).
if instead you are referring to Razor-Qt, that yes is obsoleted by LXQt.

Lumina is actually a nice DE as mentioned earlier. Very lightweight in terms of resource usage.
