you mean that rpm packaging system like in mandrake and red hat, right? if that's what you mean, then yes, slackware 10 comes with it, but it's not installed by default and it's not supported.

i run pkgtool to view the list of installed packages, and it's called rpm-4.2.1-i486-3. it should be on the first cd because the second one only has kde and gnome stuff.

There are also tools to transform RPM packages into Slackware .tgz packages.

If you want to have a real RPM database, install the RPM package and use that.
But if you just want to find a way to install RPM packages on Slackware the other solution is probably more suitable. Because: You're RPM database will never be complete on Slackware, as everything you install from the standard distribution is .tgz, not RPM. Installing RPM therefore means that your system will manage *two* package databases. I don't think that this is a problem, but just wonder if it makes that much sense....

Yes. Be warned that rpms will almost always fail dependency checks, because most of your system is installed with slackware's package system. So you'll probably need to use some swiches to override the dependency checking.

A better idea is probably to use rpm2tgz to convert the rpm to a tgz package, and then install it with installpkg.
