real big slack problems

I am going to use slack 9.0 as a router and firewall blah blah blah...
so I format setup install everything except games and Kde. it installs and everything goes fine. I reboot and start up in console. I answer the mail using pine and run into my first problem pine elm mailex lynx and basicly all programs that were supposed to be installed won't run. Second when browsing system I found /usr/src/linux was not there. I cannot get X to run in runlevel 4 and mounting the cd doesn't work either. any thoughts on what went wrong?

sorry I'm a really big slack

Re: real big slack problems

free slackware 9 (1 CD) doesn't come with the kernel source. you have to dload and install the .tgz from the slackware site.

did you configure XF86Free after install (xf86config)?

when you say pine, lynx, etc. "won't run," do you mean you get a "command not found," or they start up but...don't run?
