rc.modules converted to binary?

I'm just wandering why when I edited my /etc/rc.d/rc.modules using Advanced KDE Editor it has become a binary file - no longer a text file. When I'm trying to edit it using vi, it was shown as binaries with hex codes on the right most side.

I'm using KDE 3.3 and Slackware 10. Hope that somebody could assist me how will I revert it again to a txt file or if anyone is kind enough to send me a copy of their Slack10 rc.modules then I will just replace it with this one. (g4389@yahoo.com)

I think maybe you saved your rc.modules as RTF format or similar so there is text format codes in your rc.modules file, I suggest use Kwrite to edit text if you like KDE editors.

Thanks for that info! Actually that's the first time I use Kate to edit config files and scripts because I tried to run X to explore it here in my Slackbox. I'm still a follower of vi.

We'll I'm a happy user of Slackware. X runs faster than with RH9 with this the same old PII 450MHz with only 120MB of RAM!

I remember when I was a linux newbie, I did something similar. Screwed up my system after editing my fstab table with a kde app (don't remember which, this would have been in 98 maybe). Took me weeks to figure out what I had done wrong. Since then I don' t touch a config file with anything other than vi or pico -w.

You can also use vim in X, try gvim (very usefull to cut and past text between windows + vim text features)
