rc.inet1 Query...
 

I've just installed Slackware 9 on my new Dell 5100... As you may be aware this machine has the Broadcom 4400 NIC. I've downloaded and installed the driver for it, that bit's fine...

The problem is that it doesn't seem to initialise automatically on startup. After playing around I discovered that by manually executing rc.inet1 that everything sets up ok.

Looking at the Slackware documentation it seems as tho this "should" be run automatically? I presume I need to add a line to one of the start up files to get it to work? If so, where and what do I need to add?

if rc.inet1 is not started automatically by the time you login, it maybe the runlevel you are at.

Do you load the appropriate module before
rc.inet1 is run? IE, are you explicitly loading
it from rc.netdevice or rc.modules?

Ok,

I'm running it at the default run level of 3....

From what I can see the driver is loaded as a kernel module via rc.modules...

And rc.inet1 IS being run at start up?!?!

The only thing I can think of is that for some reason rc.inet1 is being run before rc.modules...

Anyway, I've added rc.inet1 to the rc.local file so that it runs right at the end and that seems to work... Not perfect, but a solution none the less..

if you run netconfig from a terminal as root it should set that all up for you to start on boot, and load the proper module for it.
