rc.firewall fails to start

Hi All,

I recompiled kernel 2.4.29. I think I have enabled all the iptable support.
When i try running command to start firewall ( /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall ), it returns the following messages:

-> Projectfiles.com Linux Firewall version 2.0rc9 running.
-> Performing sanity checks........ [ FAILED ]
-> FATAL: Failed to load state match module. Did you compile support for all necessary modules?
-> Firewall configuration ** ABORTED **.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Try Brian's Ten Minute Firewall If it works that your iptables install is ok and I'd say there is a problem with the script you have.

Doing some further research at you might want to
Quote:
A better way is to simply run the script once then use iptables-save to save the resultant ruleset to a file.

Erm... let's TRY and be helpful to the poor chap by reading his question:

"I recompiled kernel 2.4.29. I think I have enabled all the iptable support."

Operative word being THINK. He obviously hasn't.

"-> FATAL: Failed to load state match module. Did you compile support for all necessary modules?"

Which seems to YELL at me saying that you've not compiled the IPTables modules correctly. I use this exact firewall script, out of the box with plain Slackware 9/10/etc. and have no problems. You've missed some modules in your kernel, you should try going back through and recompiling. The module you're after is probably the IPTables state match modules (which matches on connection state and is therrefore VERY important as it's the one that decides if a connection is new, open, closed etc.)

It really wasn't that hard to decipher this problem.
