Slackware build 13.37 (MBR, single OS)

Dell Latitude e6500

I have been able to install slack without errors.

However, upon booting, the install freezes at random times, either through boot process, typing login (username or password), booting NIC card (which has since been disabled and reinstalled to no avail).
Been installed 3 different times on 3 differnet sata operations (IRRT, ATA, AHCI). Does not change.

Have tried googling for the answer but just cannot find answers pertaining to this issue.

Anyone have any suggestions to BIOS settings or slack install settings?

Also, side note, installing to a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB drive. This laptop has run a windows install without issue for the past 2 years.

Not sure if this is relevant to yours or current kernel even, but in the past with such mercurial problems I almost always found them to be related to ACPI.

My first reflex was always to add


to lilo.conf, rerun lilo and boot.

If that works then you can probably refine it to affect only a specific device afterward.

EDIT: Got the crash problem fixed, nice catch on the acpi.

Got a new problem I am trying to work through. Gui isnt displaying.

Be sure to look at the system logs for any error messages. If this is truly random then I would be testing memory with memtest86+ and cooling for this laptop.

I have the same laptop running Slackware64 13.37 without any ACPI setting in lilo.
I have a second hard drive on which I have tested Ubuntu and Fedora and they all run fine.
I don't have a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB drive, though, and I have the Intel graphics card, not the Nvidia.

I would try running memtest, like onebuck said.

Thanks for the help earlier. Got to get into the GUI and everything seems to work fine except one thing, wifi.

I was able to successfully install scr2pkg and then wicd but still does not show any available wireless networks to connect to.

As previously stated this same computer with the exception of the new Vertex 3 has run a Windows install for years, wifi included, so i know the adapter is good.

The adapter shows up in a lspci -v output.

Perhaps I missed something in the install?

Is there anyway to check the kernel to see compatibility with this specific wifi card by chance? If it is nativley supported or if i need to install the drivers directly?

Running the latest possible slackware available for download, wireless card is Intel Ultimate N 5300.

I am very new to Slack as a user, I came from debian and kubuntu so after an install everything worked out of box, havent run across this particular problem. Some help or some guides that might help me out would be much appreciated.
