raid.s kernel setup problem

when i try to install slack 9.1 on a compaq server, i have to use the raid.s kernel for the install to recoganize my scsi array. but this kernel does not detect my scsi cdrom drive. what module(s) do i need to load to get my scsi cdrom drive so i can install? as a side note, when i use the scsi1.s kernel, the drive is detected and i can access it, but then my scsi array is not found.

Thanks

PS: i also have an unrelated lock-up problem which i was told may be bad ram, but after extensive testing, the ram proved to be ok.
