Quick questions

Sorry, couldn't think of a more appropriate subject .

1. I've got my runlevel set to 4, with Slack booting GDM. When I log out of GNOME and get back to GDM, how do I shut my machine down? Is it ok just to turn the power off? When I had runlevel set to 3, I'd just login as root and do init 0.

2. How do I get my IP address to be assigned from a DHCP server, as opposed to setting it automatically (seem to have problems with that as well, in my /etc/hosts file, I have a line with 10.0.0.2 in it, but my IP is actually 10.0.0.3 :/).

3. How do I stop Apache loading on boot? Can I just delete the rc.httpd file?

Any help appreciated, thanx.

In reverse order:
3. chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.httpd (instead of removing, in case you want to put it back sometime).

2. Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 to uncomment the:
use dhcp=yes
And comment out the manual entries.

1. I don't use GDM, however you can:
CTRL ALT F2, then hit:
CTRL ALT DEL
To reboot, or login as root and type:
halt
to shut down completely.

Cool

1. Well, you have some sort of X-terminal under Gnome, yes? You could use it to login as root, and use init 0 then.
