Quick query regarding install size of KDE
Long story short, I dropped my laptop last week and crashed the hard disk completely. Couldn't get hold of a new hard disk nearby for the time being, so chose to install an existing PCLinuxOS ISO on a 8GB USB drive till I get a new hard one. But I'm not comfortable working with this thing and even the upgrade failed.
I just want to install Slackware on this 8GB USB drive but without KDE(& KDEi). Could anybody please confirm how much space this install is going to take, before I start?
You didn't mention a version nor a platform so I'll assume 14.0.
A little math gets you space requirements of ALL - KDE - KDEI.
I put together this table instead of just answering the poster's
exact request in case other slackers find the info valuable.
Depends on what you install. Here's a sample df of a Slackware 14 system that does not the kde or kdei series installed (32-bit):
$ df /dev/sda9
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda9 10475520 5736540 4738980 55% /
BTW, Qt is not installed, either, and that makes some difference.
Thanks a lot both of you.
@Mancha+ : Its Slackware 14, 32 bit. I never installed kdei and fresh installed size if I remember correctly has been ~6.7GB approx since 13.37 days. So acc. to the table, I may save up to ~1GB more.
@mlslk31 : That's what I was looking for (<6GB). I guess I can take a safe risk and go ahead with installation.
