questions about slackware distro

I'm a rh user for many years and recently because of the fedora I'm thinking about moving on. Currently my linuxbox is mainly using for web(apache), database(mysql), email(qmail), and file(samba). My system speed is about 233mhz w/ 512mb ram. I'm not a completely newbie w/ linux but I still have to do a lot of research and asking around to get some stuff working once awhile. Would slackware be the right distro for me for what i'm using it for?

Slack has changed dramatically over the years. I believe that Slackware is the most configurable Linux distro available. Also it is extremely easy to install provided your hardware is supported. Chances are that if RH picked up all of your hardware Slack will also. So in short.... Yes, Slack is the right one for you. It comes with all the stuff that you listed that you use. Except qmail (correct me if I am wrong). However I am sure that someone here in the Slack forums uses qmail. Have fun!

The best way to decide whether Slack is for you is to just try it. Either install it as part of a dual boot system or put it on an experimental machine, but give it a workout yourself before you decide either for or against it. Personally I think Slack is the best thing out there, but you shouldn't listen to me or anyone else. The only person whose opinion really matters here is *you*. If you try Slack and like it, keep it. If you try it and don't like it, discard it. Whatever the decision, try it yourself and make up your own mind. -- J.W.
