question on frames dropping

I am dropping a lot of frames in video with xine player.

I use:
my set up is slackware 11.0 on a p3 533 with 256 rambus ram and a diamond 16 mb video card.

I am confused, on windows XP (prevous OS) the set up played video well but on linux it drops frames, like bad!

Any thoughts on why ?

What video driver are you using ? Look in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'

Also, I would use mplayer. It's better and you have more control over what drivers it uses to display videos.

Is this it ?

Graphics device section
# **********************************************************************

# Any number of graphics device sections may be present

Section "Device"
Identifier "VESA Framebuffer"
Driver "vesa"
#VideoRam 4096
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection

It looks like it is only using 4 mbs of ram , Is this correct ?

Nah, that's commented out (everything after '#' is a comment). It looks like you're running vesa driver ... not too good for watching movies.

Run 'xorgsetup' as root when xserver is down, it will autodetect your card and assign appropriate drivers (hopefully). And then you should get better performance.
