I have found how to run Quake3 on slackware 10.2

1) create dir with subdir: root/quake3/baseq3/
2) Get Quake3 CD for Windows
3) Copy from Q3 windows CD file named pak0.pk3(~450mb) to baseq3/ dir
4) Download Q3 installation file:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/qua....32b-3.x86.run
or
http://www.planetquake3.net/download...ileid&lid=1149
5) Put that file in quake3/ dir
6) Go to quake3/ dir and write in terminal: "sh linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run"
7) Then in terminal: "quake3" and enjoy

BTW, Quake will also run fine with wine even installed in Windows partition.

Hi, i don't see why to install it on root/quake3/baseq3/
The installler uses: /usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3 and it's worked for me fine since 2001.
I also fail to see why use wine to run it.
The link posted by Nylex is the way to do it imo.
I have some experience with q3a, here are a few simple reminders:
* Make sure you get 1.32B point release or mouse won't work http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=409555
* Your config will be under /home/<username>/.q3a or .q3a/baseq3
* To install maps/skins place them under /home/BLAH/.q3a/baseq3 and mods under .q3a
* All mods work in linux. PB is kinda painful to update but so is in windows.
Happy fragin!

You don't need any patches if you run through wine. I found it simplier, even my sound has worked from the start. But it always better to run native version which often increases performance.

Totally agree, besides you can just start an xsession, fire up q3a wihout having to load a windows manager, have xchat on another alt+tab, and have xqf on another, this works fine for clan activity

I'm probably one of the very few who actually own the Quake3 Linux original CD. The installers provided by ID work fine with Windows discs as an alternative though.
