Qt Designer "Help" causes kernel crash, Designer scroll problems

I'm running Slackware 11.0 and Slamd64 (this applies to both) using nVidia drivers compiled from the nVidia install programs. In KDE, I've got several "pretty" effects enabled.

When I try to open the Qt Designer "Help" documentation after I've been working in the program for a while it will crash my kernel and/or the X-server. I can't tell which because my screen turns red and my CPU fan turns up. No keys work, and eventually either the kernel watchdog reboots the system (or it's a few minutes delayed from a million Ctrl-Alt-Del) or I do a hard shutdown. This doesn't happen with anything else, and doesn't happen if I open "Help" right away.

The second Designer problem I have is that it can't seem to scroll up. The scroll bar will move, but it makes a mess of what's in the frame. That's with mouse wheel, drag, AND arrow click. After a little bit, it happens for scrolling down, also. Resizing of widgets doesn't do all that well, either. I don't have any of those problems with KDE applications.

Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks.
