putty & ncurses programs

Hello,

I can't seem to get ncurses based programs to display right when I use putty.
Here is an example picture:

But, for some reason ncurses based programs will work if I use screen. For example "screen make menuconfig"
Here is an exmple picture using screen:

Anyone know how to get ncurses based programs to work with putty all the time? I don't want to always run screen just to get the colors to display right.

i have the same issues here, i guess its because putty has its own color settings, instead of using the settings on the system you are connecting to.

Well I managed to find a solution to this problem.

I was talking to the maker of naim, an aim based console client that uses ncurses, and he told me that I needed to set PuTTY to "Use Background Colour to erase screen." It's listed in the PuTTY options under "Terminal."
