Thumbs up Puppy Linux and the ultimate distro Slackware.

http://distrowatch.com/

Although Slackware is the king of distros,Puppy is a great distro as well...having said that I am into TinyCore and small distros, as it makes it easier to see whats going on.

TinyCore is a very, very interesting project. I wish I had more time to explore it fully.

Not really Slackware related
but -
Puppy supports Slackware packages (and deb), IIRC is based(?) on Slackware?
I'm not entirely sure about that part though. Seems I remember reading somewhere they were Ubuntu based, Debian based, and this last version sourced from Slackware native packages????

Tiny Core looks interesting, never tried it. Used to use Slitaz when I needed a quick booting live environment. Parted Magic is another small live distro I like to use.

Parted Magic is not Slackware based, but the main tool chain was compiled on Slackware. If you would like to add programs your best bet is to use TXZ packages from Slackware 13.x.
I find these full featured mini distros to be fascinating!!

*me too* the distrowatch link has a little more info on the puppy Slackware thing www.distrowatch.com

ps I can set TinyCore up in about fifteen minutes with all the functionality of a much bigger distro... I really like it.

Puppy Linux is an excellent primer. It works great and shows the superiority of linux over micro$oft.

By the time you are ready for a permanent installation or customizing the system, you are usually ready to try a more comprehensive distro - like Slackware!

AFAIK there are several "editions" of Puppy, that can be set up and configured using a generic build system, and one of them is indeed based on Slackware. I don't know, how this works, but I guess it must be something similar like the SUSE BuildService.
