Pulseaudio - Automatic connectivity

NOTE: This post is for Patrick V., but others are welcome to chime in as well with their thoughts about what I am proposing.

Recently, I purchased a Bluetooth stereo receiver, and was having trouble getting it to connect automatically. When I would turn on my receiver, it is configured to automatically connect with a previously paired device; however, it would not be able to connect to my computer.

I Googled for solutions, and came across a rather simple solution; this site gave me a line to add to /etc/pulse/default.pa:

Code:
load-module module-switch-on-connect
And from then on, when my receiver wants to connect to my computer, it is able to do so with little to no trouble at all.

I don't usually ask for modifications to default Slackware packages, since I am well aware of Slackware's policy of not modifying upstream packages, or at least as little as possible, but the above line I added greatly enhanced pulseaudio's presence in Slackware, at least for me, and I think it would help others as well.

Thanks much for your consideration.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure this would work without problems, otherwise upstream would've made it the default long ago.
Specifically systems with multiple outputs where you wouldn't want it to switch. Think for example HDMI outputs, or USB headsets.

Plasma 5 manages to do what you want using module-device-manager more elegantly (it's in fact what I use to automatically switch from internal audio to a USB DAC on my laptop when I'm home).
No idea about other DEs though :/

Checking other distros I can't really find precedent there either, so generally leaning more towards leaving this as is.

You're probably right; I jumped the gun there, on my proposal. However, I think it couldn't hurt to add the line, and then comment it out, so people know the option is there, and don't have to search for it.
