psmouse module not loading with new kernel

I've just installed Slackware 11 and the first thing I did was compile a new kernel - 2.6.18. Everything works well but for some reason the psmouse module isn't loading automatically when booting up. I've fixed the problem by putting a modprobe entry for it in /etc/rc.d/modules but I'm not sure if this is the right way of doing it. When I looked in the /etc/rc.d directory I also saw seperate rc.modules scripts for the 2.4 kernel and the 2.6.17 kernel (I installed the 2.6 modules after installing with huge26). Do I need one of these scripts for my new kernel? I ask because these seem to have modprobe commands for things like mice in them for the other kernels. If so, how do I create one?

* The psmouse module is blacklisted by default in the
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file due to problems with the default kernel
options used when it loads; this allows you to load it (from
rc.modules, for example) with option "proto=imps" if you need it, or
you are certainly free to comment it out in the blacklist file if it
works fine for you with the kernel defaults.
