proftpd problem
Hi
I got proftpd running on slackware 10. It's running as standalone and is #commented# in inetd.conf. Problem is it takes 10 seconds to connect. FTP OK - 10.005 second response time on port 21 It shouldn't take this long to respond? I don't have a proper startup script for it. Just running "proftpd start" from the command line. Any ideas? Any good examples anywhere of a proftpd startup script for a standalone server under slackware? Thanks |
maybe a prob with config ? Check output for :
/usr/sbin/proftpd --configtest |
Yeh i tried that. Couldnt find any problems with the config. It was pretty standard.
Anyway I just discovered the joys of pure-ftpd. I don't think I'll bother with proftpd anymore. :) FTP OK - 0.056 second response time on port 21 |

Interesting. I've used vsftpd with redhat servers, default ftp server with RH. It is very good. I was just after something with more features while still being very secure. Don't know what I was thinking about trying to use proftpd. Security wise its a joke.
pure-ftpd seems to be extemely secure, un-cracked in the world wide crackattack competition?? fast, and has some nice features that vsftpd doesn't have. Going to give it a run as our main ftp server. |
If anyone like to run a private ftp server. I suggest just disable ftp server (as it is disabled by default in Slackware 10.0) and use sftp client (ssh).
